USC Stadium Expansion
The USC Stadium extension comprises 997 new spectator seating, as well as 21 disabled seating, supported by amenities, training, media and function room spaces located below the additional seating.
The upgrade to the eastern side of the stadium was selected to give a new frontage to the existing building, whilst also utilising the exiting activation zone – located in the car park adjacent to the extension. The ground floor consists of a kiosk, public amenities, meeting and drug testing rooms, an umpire change room, office spaces, a media room and storage. Public areas are accessible externally allowing interior spaces to only be occupied by officials and players of the sports. The second level comprises of a function space for 200 standing occupiers, production room, storage and access to the stadium seating.
Architecturally, the new eastern facade is made up several materials to create an aesthetically pleasing design. Metal cladding with a standing seams, in an irregular pattern, is applied to the side wings, wrapping entry points to the building. Some panels are perforated to maximise ventilation in to lobby and plant room spaces passively. Fibre-cement sheeting is located on the north and south facade of the extension, in a lighter shade, to highlight the new frontage of the building.
